Hybrid Trigger Supplement

This supplement to the Northwood Trigger Installation Guides covers specific steps to install the HYBRID trigger in the Kel-Tec PF-9, P-11, and P-40. It is meant to be used in addition to the primary guides. Only a few steps are different than the standard installation.

These differences are:

1. The larger setscrew in the HYBRID trigger is installed in the bottom of the trigger pin hole, and is tightened against the head of the shorter trigger pin.
2. The front of the trigger slot in the P-11 plastic grip will not need to be trimmed to fit the trigger.

The photos used in the Trigger Installation Guides are of the standard Northwood trigger. Unless a specific step in the HYBRID installation requires a new photo for clarity, please consider that process to be essentially the same for either trigger.

***

Begin installation  by opening the appropriate  Trigger Installation Guide  in a separate tab on your browser. Follow the steps outlined in the Guide just as you would with a standard Northwood trigger. When a specific HYBRID step is called out, tab to this supplement for details on those steps. Then return to the Guide for the rest of the installation.

Hybrid Trigger Setscrew Installation

First Pass
(without Trigger Spring)

Slide the Hybrid trigger into the frame, and insert the trigger axis through the holes in the frame and trigger as outlined in the Trigger Guide.

The trigger pin will seat on a shoulder inside the trigger, and be secured by the setscrew from the bottom.

Line up the components by inserting the small 2mm punch through the top access hole in the frame, and through the trigger and trigger axis.

Insert the trigger pin through the bottom of the trigger and trigger axis, being careful not to damage the threads inside the hole.

Using the large 3mm punch, gently push the trigger pin up into the trigger until the head of the pin seats firmly.

The top of the trigger pin should now be visible at the top of the trigger (looking through the access hole in the frame).

With the setscrew positioned on the LONG end of the 5/64” hex key, carefully start it into the threaded opening of the trigger pin hole.

(To help prevent cross-threading, gently start the screw COUNTER-CLOCKWISE until a slight click is felt, lining up the thread. Then turn it clockwise into the hole.)

Turn the setscrew until it contacts the head of the trigger pin. Then gently turn to a "snug fit" without tightening too much.

(This step will be repeated again with the trigger spring after the clearance checks, so there is no need to tighten the setscrew at this point.)

The head of the setscrew should be positioned inside the trigger as shown at right.

Hybrid trigger in forward “reset” position. Notice the axis tab is contacting the rear of the cutout pocket (factory setting).

Note also the upper trigger guard "setback" for the P-11 grip opening. This flattened area will allow grip installation without expanding the trigger opening.

Second Pass
(with Trigger Spring)

Line up the components as before by inserting the small 2mm punch through the top access hole in the frame, and through the trigger, the trigger axis, and the loop at the end of the trigger spring.

The "arm" of the spring should extend toward the front of the frame as shown.

Holding the spring down into the axis, insert the trigger pin through the bottom of the trigger, the trigger axis, and the loop at the end of the trigger spring. Use the punch to help with alignment of the spring loop.

Using the large 3mm punch, gently push the trigger pin up into the trigger until the head of the pin seats firmly. The spring may need to be held down while doing this.

The top of the trigger pin should now be visible at the top of the trigger (looking through the access hole in the frame).

Test for proper alignment of the spring loop by moving the "arm" back and forth. It should resist turning if the trigger pin is properly secured through the loop.

With the setscrew positioned on the LONG end of the 5/64” hex key, carefully start it into the threaded opening of the trigger pin hole.

Note: A drop of blue Locktite placed on the setscrew before installing is recommended, but not required.

(To help prevent cross-threading, gently start the screw COUNTER-CLOCKWISE until a slight click is felt, lining up the thread. Then turn it clockwise into the hole.)

Turn the setscrew until it contacts the head of the trigger pin.

Check again (through the frame access hole) that the top of the trigger pin is through the spring loop and at the top of the trigger.

Using the short end of the hex key in the setscrew, tighten firmly, but being careful not to strip the threads in the trigger.

The head of the setscrew should be positioned inside the trigger as shown at right

Important: Periodically check the tightness of this setscrew.
